GCEL and BVMW, Germany’s largest SME association, convened a strategy session in Berlin on March 15, 2018 to set the foundation for the deployment of the Digital Economy Platform through the European Benchmark Trade Lane.
Germany has been the global perennial #1 in trade efficiency according to the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index. This leadership has been confirmed by GCEL’s G20 Nations Case Study that improves upon the “gold standard” by defining the digital tools and providing the road map to further improve trade efficiency based on what technology makes possible today. The Germany Shipment Efficiency Assessment that was recently completed by Germany’s Ministry of Economy, BVMW and GCEL revealed that 90.4% of trade participants in Germany do not have an integrated system and 94.5% want the Digital Economy Platform to increase trade. By providing new digital tools to its SMEs, at no cost through a unique business model, Germany recognizes that it can further solidify its global leadership in trade efficiency. The European Benchmark Trade Lane is one of 4 regional deployments of the Digital Economy Platform in cooperation with the public and private sectors, including the world’s leading technology firms.
