APMEN AND GCEL EXECUTE MOU TO ADVANCE DIGITAL ECONOMY DEPLOYMENT ACROSS APEC ECONOMIES

September 14, 2017

On September 14, 2017, the Asia-Pacific Model E-Port Network (APMEN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GCEL to support deployment of the Digital Economy Platform (DEP) through the HumaWealth Benchmark Trade Lanes (BTL) program.

APMEN was established by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and represents 21 member economies, including China, Japan, and the United States, collectively accounting for approximately 60% of global GDP.

The agreement supports the development of a Benchmark Trade Lane connecting China and ASEAN economies, including Malaysia and Indonesia, powered by India. Together, these markets represent nearly 45% of the world’s population and provide a large-scale opportunity to enhance trade efficiency, security, and economic growth.

APMEN and GCEL share a common vision for improving global trade through digital transformation. The partnership builds on the experience of 10 APEC economies that completed National Trade Efficiency Assessments with GCEL, highlighting demand for advanced digital solutions such as a Global Single Window, improved customs cooperation, real-time supply chain visibility, streamlined information exchange, electronic customs processing, and expanded digital payment capabilities.
