UAE AND GCEL EXPLORE THE DIGITAL ECONOMY TO SUPPORT ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION

October 26, 2017

On October 26, 2017, H.E. Eng. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori, United Arab Emirates Minister of Economy, hosted a Digital Economy briefing session with a GCEL delegation led by Dr. Sergio Arzeni, GCEL Executive Member and President of the International Network for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (INSME).

The discussions focused on how Digital Economy technologies can support the UAE’s Vision 2021 objectives by strengthening a diversified, knowledge-based economy and addressing long-term economic challenges beyond the petrochemical sector.

GCEL presented how digitizing trade activities can improve efficiency, transparency, and risk management across global value chains. These capabilities can help expand trade opportunities, strengthen economic diversification, and support the development of new international markets.

The session also highlighted how increased purchasing power in mid- and low-income countries can create significant growth opportunities for higher-income trading partners through a more connected and inclusive global economy.
