GCEL’S ASIA ADVISORY BOARD CONVENE

June 23, 2013

GCEL’s Asia Advisory Board convened leading Asia-Pacific economic experts and dignitaries to support deployment of the Digital Economy Platform through the HumaWealth Program. The initiative is projected to reduce Asia’s annual trade costs by USD 194 billion, increase trade by USD 288 billion, and create 29.7 million jobs.

Chaired by former ASEAN Secretary-General and former Thailand Foreign Minister Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, the Board emphasized the opportunity to reduce trade costs, increase trade, and generate millions of jobs across the region. The Digital Economy Platform aims to integrate e-commerce, e-finance, e-insurance, and e-logistics through leading technology providers at no cost to end users.

GCEL reported that trade efficiency assessments conducted with governments and associations representing more than 20% of the world’s population confirmed projected trade savings and found that over 80% of trade participants lack a system and support rapid deployment of the Digital Economy Platform.

The Board also discussed how HumaWealth would support the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), create 15 million high-paying service industry jobs in Asia, and strengthen economic growth through established partnerships with ASEAN-BAC, India, Indonesia, the League of Arab States, the African Union, and the OIC through ICDT.

The Digital Economy Platform was scheduled for its first public unveiling at major international events in India and Indonesia, further positioning Asia as a leader in innovation and service industry development.
